Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy

Moure, J. S. (1960). Notes on the types of the Neotropical bees described by Fabricius (Hymenoptera: Apoidea). Stud. Entomol. (Rio de Janeiro) 3 (1-4): 97-160 [154]

Remarks

Obs.: It is possible that the form described by Almeida, 1984 as Trigona truculenta, is junior synonym of Trigona amalthea (Olivier, 1789). The smallest form, considered as Trigona amalthea by Almeida, 1984: 135 is recorded only from western Amazonia (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela), and probably corresponds to Trigona trinidadensis (Provancher, 1888) described from Trinidad. If this synonymy is confirmed, the name T. trinidadensis may be revalidated

Distribution

Neotropical Region: Bolivia (Cochabamba, Santa Cruz); Brazil (Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Rondônia); Colombia (Cundinamarca, Meta); Ecuador (Napo); French Guiana; Guyana (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo); Peru (Huánuco, Junín, Madre de Dios); Suriname; Trinidad and Tobago; Venezuela (Bolívar)
