Type locality: Brazil, Amazonas, São Paulo de Olivença ('St. Paulo') [LaBerge & Moure (1962:4) and Urban (1974:319) erroneously give 'Pará, Brasil' as type locality].

Eucera obscurior Dalla Torre, C. G. (1896). Catalogus Hymenopterorum hucusque descriptorum systematicus et synonymicus. Lipsiae: Guilelmi Engelmann Vol. 10 643 pp. [242] (unnecessary nom. nov. for Melissodes obscura Smith, 1879. Proposed by Dalla Torre due to secondary homonymy with Macrocera obscura Brullé, 1832. Although Michener (2000:707) argued for use of this replacement name based on Art. 59.(b) of the 3rd. edition of the ICZN, according to Art. 59.3 of the current edition, a secondary homonym replaced before 1961 can be reinstated when the substitute name is not in use and the relevant taxa are no longer considered congeneric) .
