Type data: lectotype MCG <F> , paralectotype RMNH <F>.
Subsequent designation: Nemésio, A. & Rasmussen, C. (2011). Nomenclatural issues in the orchid bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Euglossina) and an updated catalogue. Zootaxa 3006: 1-42 [11] .
Type locality: Brazil, Pará, Belém.

Remarks

When proposing Euglossa lugubris, Roubik (2004) assumed, with some reservation, that his new form was not sympatric with E. piliventris. The material available at the DZUP collection, however, shows that they co-occur in the eastern portion of their distribution. Taking into consideration that the lectotype of E. piliventris is a female, there is a possibility that E. lugubris may turn out to be its synonym, leaving the other form without a name (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.).

Distribution

Neotropical Region: Brazil (Amapá, Amazonas, Maranhão [Alcântara, Buriticupu, Carutapera, São Luís, Vitória Do Mearim], Pará [Anajás, Belém, Conceição Do Araguaia, Vigia]), Colombia, French Guiana (Cayenne), Guyana, Jamaica, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago
