Euglossa intersecta Latreille, P. A. (1817). Euglosse pp. 533-535 in Anonymous (ed.) Nouveau Dictionnaire d'Histoire Naturelle, appliquée aux Arts, à l'Agriculture, à l'Économie rurale et domestique, à la Médecine, etc. Vol. 10. Paris: Deterville 591 pp. [534] .
Type data: Type whereabouts unknown <?> (Probably lost).
Type locality: French Guiana, Cayenne (Banon leg.).

Euglossa brullei Lepeletier, A. L. M. (1841). Histoire Naturelle des Insectes. Hyménoptères. Paris: Roret Vol. 2 680 pp. [10] (Name spelled originally as Brullei) .
Type data: holotype MNHP <F> (Nemésio & Rasmussen (2011:26) treat the type specimen as lectotype. Their position is not followed here considering that there is no evidence in the original description for more than one specimen being examined and they have not presented evidence on the contrary. Also in the original description, Lepeletier refers to the "L'étiquete du Musée de Paris", in the singular and not in the plural (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.)).
Type locality: 'Senegal'.

Type data: holotype GMNH <M>.
Type locality: [unknown].

Remarks

The current use of the name Euglossa intersecta is due to Moure (1967:403). Despite the succinct original description, Moure was able to recognize that this name should be applied to the species then referred as Euglossa brullei Lepeletier, 1841, following the synonymy established by Dalla-Torre (1896:310), who overlooked the name intersecta in his catalog. Moure (1967) attributed intersecta to Latreille, from an article on 'Euglosse', which appeared in vol. 4, published in 1838, of Drapiez's second edition of the 'Dictionnaire Classique des Sciences Naturelles'. More recently, Nemésio (2009:46) and Nemésio & Rasmussen (2011:26) found out that the name intersecta appeared much earlier, in an article by Audouin, published in 1824, in vol. 6 of Bory de Saint-Vincent's first edition of the 'Dictionnaire Classique des Sciences Naturelles'. They therefore changed the authorship and date of publication accordingly. However, during preparation of the current version of Moure's catalog, it has been found that the name intersecta appeared earlier in an article on 'Euglosse', by Latreille, published in 1817 in the vol. 10 of the work 'Nouveau Dictionnaire d'Histoire Naturelle'. Audouin's article is basically a slightly modified version of Latreille's (1817) article. Also it should be pointed out that the text on 'Euglosse' in the 2nd edition of the 'Dictionnaire Classique des Sciences Naturelles' is identical to the in the 1st edition, and therefore should be attributed to Audouin as well, and not to Latreille (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.).
