APIDAE Apinae Euglossini Eufriesea
Eufriesea pretiosa (Friese, 1903)
Euglossa (Eulema) pretiosa
Friese, H. (1903). Nachtrag zur Monographie der Bienengattung Euglossa. Ann. Hist.-Nat. Mus. Natl. Hung. 1: 574-575 [575] .
Type data: holotype whereabouts unknown <F> (Both Moure (1967:409) and Kimsey (1982:72) have assumed that a female specimen, labeled from 'Ecuador, Santa Inez' and deposited at the AMNH, is the holotype. In the original description, Friese mentions only a female from 'Ecuador (Caucatal)'. More recently, Nemésio & Rasmussen (2011:22) also treated the AMNH specimen as a false type. They also assumed that the species was described based on more than one specimen. Since Friese's original indication suggests that only a single female was examined, the status of the type material is here maintained as holotype (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.)).
Type locality: 'Ecuador (Caucatal)' [probably Cauca valley, in Colombia].
Distribution
Neotropical Region: Ecuador
