Euplusia aridicola Moure, J. S., Neves, E. L.& Viana, B. F. (2001). Uma nova espécie de Euplusia da Bahia, Brasil (Hymenoptera, Apoidea, Euglossinae). Rev. Bras. Zool. 18 (3): 841-844 [842] (It is treated here as subjective synonym of Eufriesea nordestina; see Remarks below (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.)) .
Type data: holotype DZUP <M>.
Type locality: Brazil, Bahia, Barra.

Remarks

The form described as E. aridicola by Moure et al. (2001) is here placed in synonymy with E. nordestina. Study of normal males collected at the type locality of E. aridicola has revealed that the holotype of E. aridicola is just a color variant of E. nordestina. This type of polymorphism has been reported by Moure (1999:93) in males, from Espírito Santo, placed by him in E. danielis [see specimen from Rio de Janeiro illustrated in Fig. 18 of Nemésio (2009:36)]. Nemésio (2009:32) has also treated the holotype of E. aridicola as a color variant as well, but on the other hand, interpreted all the different forms as belonging to a single species, E. auriceps. Also it should be added that the sex association for E. nordestina, which was described from a single female, was based on study of males and additional females collected near its type locality (G. A. R. Melo, unpubl.).
