Colax Lepeletier, A. L. M. & Serville, J. G. A. (1825). [Articles] pp. 1–344 in M. Diderot et al. (ed.) Encyclopédie Méthodique. Histoire Naturelle. Entomologie, ou Histoire Naturelle des Crustacés, des Arachnides et des Insectes, vol. 10, P. A. Latreille. Paris: Agasse [4] (junior homonym of Colax Hübner, 1819. Michener (1997:16) and Engel et al. (2004:4) treated it as a nomen nudum; however, since it was first presented in a diagnostic table, it can be considered as validly made available by Lepeletier & Serville (1825). The same reasoning applies to Scrapter, appearing in the same page. Otherwise, both names should be considered vernacular, as the remaining names appearing in the table, and therefore without significance to zoological nomenclature) .
Type species: Rhathymus bicolor Lepeletier & Serville, 1828 by subsequent monotypy, see Lepeletier, A. L. M. & Serville, J. G. A. (1828). [Articles] pp. 345-832 in M. Diderot et al. (ed.) Encyclopédie Méthodique. Histoire Naturelle. Entomologie, ou Histoire Naturelle des Crustacés, des Arachnides et des Insectes, vol. 10, P. A. Latreille. Paris: Agasse [448] .
