Remarks

Remarks (from Camargo & Pedro 2007: 333): Melipona fulvipes Guérin although described from Cuba, was presumably introduced to Jamaica and Cuba by Indians from its continental range in México and Central America, according to Michener (1982: 37). The continental specimens, considered as M. beecheii, present some variation in body size and coloration of the pilosity on mesoscutum - whitish, like specimens from Cuba, faint yellow tinge, to strongly yellow or rufescent. In the present catalog M. fulvipes and M. beecheii are considered synonyms; only an exhaustive revision of the group will clarify if they constitute one or more species.

Distribution

Nearctic Region: Mexico (Campeche, Chiapas, Distrito Federal, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán de Ocampo, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz-Llave, Yucatán, Zacatecas); Neotropical Region: Belize, Costa Rica (Puntarenas, San José), Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala (Alta Verapaz, Chiquimula, Guatemala, Izabal, Zacapa), Honduras (Cortés, Francisco Morazán), Jamaica, Nicaragua (Atlántico Norte, Managua), Panama, Panama Canal Zone
