Trigona recursa Smith, F. (1863). Descriptions of Brazilian Honey Bees belonging to the Genera Melipona and Trigona, which were exhibited, together with Samples of their Honey and Wax, in the Brazilian Court of the International Exhibition of 1862. Trans. Entomol. Soc. Lond. 11: 497-512 [508, 504, plate 20, figure 15] .
Type data: lectotype BMNH 17B 1087 <F> worker , paralectotype OUM <F> worker , paralectotype AMNH <F> worker , paralectotype whereabouts unknown <F> workers (7) (probably in BMNH).
Subsequent designation: Schwarz, H. F. (1948). Stingless bees (Meliponidae) of the Western Hemisphere. Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. 90: xvii+546 [227] (by inference: Schwarz, 1948: 227, referred to one specimen deposited in BMNH as the "type") .
