Type data: lectotype HNHM 539/190 <F> worker (there is another specimen from the type series, with same labels, which is a <I>Trigonisca</I>. Roubik, 1992: 511, examined a "paratype" from Pará, Brazil, determined by Friese, deposited in USNM) , paralectotype ZMB <F> workers.

Type locality: Mérida, Venezuela.
Etymology: homage to Dr. E. Göldi.
Remarks
Plebeia goeldiana (Friese) is interpreted based on the lectotype from Merida, Venezuela. Specimens from other regions of Brazil (Pará, Amazonas, Maranhão, Mato Grosso) referred in the literature (especially Ducke,1901-1908) as Plebeia goediana, are being considered as Plebeia minima (Gribodo).
