Remarks

Melipona illustris is here reconsidered as a valid species based on information about the holotype in AMNH kindly provided by John Ascher - personal communication to J.M.F. Camargo - and analysis of additional material.

Neotropical Region: Brazil (Amazonas [Manaus], Mato Grosso, Pará [Faro], Rondônia), Suriname, Venezuela (Amazonas)
