version:
The goal of this system is to facilitate the identification of taxonomic, geographic and temporal data gaps of bees in Brazil. The system displays the status of online data for all valid species in Moure's Bee Catalogue. The system also compares the Brazilian states where specialists indicate that the species occurs with the states that have occurrence points in the speciesLink network, highlighting the gaps. Species that in Moure's Bee Catalogue have no indication as to occurring in Brazil are colored brown, those that according to the Catalogue occur in Brazil are in green.

Data Sources

  • speciesLink network (July 23, 2020)
  • Moure’s Bee Catalogue (July 2012)
  • Official National List of Endangered Animal Species – Act nº 444 of December 17, 2014

Search Filters

  • Taxonomic Filters determine the taxonomic group: subfamily, tribe, genus, or species to be analyzed, allowing the inclusion of synonyms and phonetic searches.
  • Geographic filters allow the evaluation of the geographic coordinates.
  • Endangered species included in Brazil's official endangered species list of animals are presented with pre-selected search filters.

Structure of the Report

According to the selected taxonomic group, subfamily, tribe or genus

  • The system presents a chart with the number of species separated into four groups: (i) those without records in the speciesLink network; (II) with 1-5 records; (III) with 6-20 records; and, (IV) with more than 20 records. This classification aims at showing the potential for producing species distribution models (exploratory, preliminary or consistent models)
  • The number of species reported as occurring in a given state (Moure’s Bee Catalog), that do not have any records in the speciesLink network.

By species

  • Hierarchical classification according to Moure’s Bee Catalogue
  • Conservation Status (Act no. 444 of December 17, 2014)
  • Table comparing the geographic distribution by Brazilian state in Moure’s Bee Catalog with data from the speciesLink network
  • Species distribution maps: distribution according to Moure's Bee Catalogue and species occurrence data from the speciesLink network
  • Status and origin of data online: biological collection, year of collection, name status, and geographic information

Expected usage

  • Guide the work of new collecting efforts, indicating priority species and geographic areas
  • Assist in prioritizing digitization and georeferencing
  • Assist in the identification of understudied groups, indicating the need for training of taxonomists
  • Assist in the evaluation of the conservation status of species
